I'm in Holiday Villa in Langkawi now, with a stuffed stomach and a roomful of gear to lug to the beach later. Arrived here the evening 2 days ago, and spent yesterday visiting some places and shopping for camp food. We rented a car (much cheaper than taxi-ing) to move around so that we can dump our shopping inside, and drove to take the cable car and visited the suspension bridge. It offers nice scenery, and is probably the only attraction worth visiting. Anyway, we spent over an hour queueing up for it, and had to deal with a bunch of tourists from hell behind us, so I'm glad it's worth it.
The place is much less crowded/exciting compared to Patong in Phuket, both in terms of the crowd and the noise generated by the shops. It's definitely more family-friendly here, and I've seen lots of big families and middle-aged people here, and hardly any younger travellers like myself. It's definitely more scenic here though, with lots of hills and nearby islands to be seen everywhere. The sea looks nice and blue from the cable car station, and the weather has been very sunny, just perfect for paddling trips.
Pictures and more when I'm back!
